A Brief Survey of Techniques for Fault Tolerance in Field Programmable Devices
نویسنده
چکیده
The focus of this work is on how field programmable devices handle faults. More specifically, how physical constraints may hamper fault tolerance techniques. This paper analyzes representative work in exhaustive BIST, voting, FPTA fault tolerance, competitive runtime reconfiguration, and embryonics. Its aim is to examine how the presented techniques perform with added constraints such as space/weight, time, power, et cetera.

Fault-tolerant Embedded Systems with Multiple Fpga Implemented Watchdogs
The paper deals with the problem of fault-tolerant embedded systems. To ensure the system’s fault tolerance, we use the multiple watchdog system that assigns a dedicated hardware watchdog timer to each of the concurrent processes. For sake of simplicity, effectiveness and adaptability, the watchdogs are implemented in the programmable hardware devices. This approach has several advantages and p...
متن کاملFault-Tolerance Projects at Stanford CRC
This paper describes the fault-tolerant computing research currently active at Stanford University’s Center for Reliable Computing. One focus is on tolerating hardware faults by means of software (software-implemented hardware fault tolerance). This work mainly targets faults caused by radiation induced upsets. An experiment evaluating the techniques that we have developed, is currently running...
متن کاملNovel Defect Terminolgy Beside Evaluation And Design Fault Tolerant Logic Gates In Quantum-Dot Cellular Automata
Quantum dot Cellular Automata (QCA) is one of the important nano-level technologies for implementation of both combinational and sequential systems. QCA have the potential to achieve low power dissipation and operate high speed at THZ frequencies. However large probability of occurrence fabrication defects in QCA, is a fundamental challenge to use this emerging technology. Because of these vari...
متن کاملCo - design of Fault - Tolerant Systems with Imperfect Fault Detection
In recent decades, transient faults have become a critical issue in modern electronic devices. Therefore, many fault-tolerant techniques have been proposed to increase system reliability, such as active redundancy, which can be implemented in both space and time dimensions. The main challenge of active redundancy is to introduce the minimal overhead of redundancy and to schedule the tasks. In m...
